Interactive Metronome (IM) is an evidenced-based training and assessment tool. It is utilized as a therapeutic treatment modality within occupational therapy sessions by certified therapists. Interactive Metronome is proven to improve cognition, attention, focus, memory, executive functioning skills, as well as motor and sensory skills, and more! Use of IM is indicated in children typically ages 5 years and older, with executive functioning challenges, fleeting attention, or diagnoses such as ADHD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
IM is believed to improve the resolution and efficiency of an individual’s internal brain clock(s) and temporal processing. This allows for more efficient brain connectivity, communication, and synchronization via increased integrity of the brain’s neural tracts, producing more efficient communication between critical brain networks.
Interactive Metronome utilizes a station that is attached to a computer system, various triggering devices, and headphones. It requires its own computer software to operate. Rhythmic signals are provided via the sound of a bell to headphones worn by a pediatric client. The client is required to clap, step, or tap to the sound of the rhythm. Various scores are recorded by the computer software in order to track the client’s progress over time. Difficulty can be increased or decreased to match a client’s distinct needs and abilities.
Interactive Metronome is only offered at our Jersey City location. If you are interested in this modality for your child, please reach out for an evaluation and more information.
